World Hepatitis Day 2023

Latest Posts

On 28 July 2023, we mark World Hepatitis Day. This is a global day of action to raise awareness of viral hepatitis, a group of liver diseases caused by five different viruses.

Hepatitis is a serious public health problem that affects millions of people around the world. In South Africa, an estimated 2.5 million people are living with chronic hepatitis B or C.

If left untreated, hepatitis can lead to serious liver damage, including cirrhosis, liver cancer, and death.

The good news is that hepatitis is preventable, treatable, and curable. There are vaccines available to prevent hepatitis B, and there are effective treatments for hepatitis C.

World Hepatitis Day is a time to raise awareness of hepatitis and to encourage people to get tested and vaccinated. It is also a time to call for action to eliminate hepatitis as a public health threat.

We hope you will join us in raising awareness of hepatitis and in working to eliminate this silent killer.

Here are some ways you can get involved in World Hepatitis Day:

  • Learn more about hepatitis and how to prevent it.
  • Share your knowledge with others.
  • Get yourself and your loved ones vaccinated for hepatitis.
  • Talk to your doctor about hepatitis treatment.

Together, we can make a difference in the fight against hepatitis.
