Say No To Nurse Abuse

Latest Posts

As a proud advocate for nurses across South Africa, we at Unique Health join the South African Nursing Council (SANC) in strongly condemning the ongoing and unacceptable violence against nurses - the very people dedicated to protecting the health and well-being of our communities.

A Wake-Up Call No One Should Ignore

The shocking and deeply disturbing January 2025 attack on two nurses from the Ga-Chuene Clinic is a painful reminder of the dangers healthcare workers face. These nurses were forcibly removed from their place of work after a perpetrator overpowered clinic security. Such acts of violence are not just criminal — they are an assault on the soul of our nation.

As Dr MC Molepo, Chairperson of the SANC, said:

“It is appalling that nurses are threatened and improperly assaulted whilst performing professional duties, by serving their communities… Hands off our nurses!”

We echo this call loudly and clearly.

Nurses Are a Critical Lifeline — Not a Target

South Africa faces a critical shortage of nursing professionals, especially in rural and underserved areas. For many communities, a nurse is the only access to healthcare. Violence against them doesn’t just hurt individuals — it damages the entire healthcare system and puts the lives of countless others at risk.

These professionals deserve protection, respect, and unwavering support as they carry out their essential work under already challenging circumstances.

Justice Must Be Served

We welcome the efforts of law enforcement in apprehending the perpetrator involved in the Ga-Chuene case and support the SANC’s call for the full force of the law to be applied. Accountability must be non-negotiable.

In Solidarity With Our Nurses

To all nurses who continue to serve with compassion and commitment despite growing risks: we see you, we support you, and we thank you. Your dedication ensures that even in the darkest of times, hope and healing are never out of reach.

At Unique Health, we stand united with the SANC and the National Department of Health in calling for:

  • Greater protection of healthcare workers
  • Stronger community and institutional support
  • Zero tolerance for violence in any form

Let us all raise our voices to say:

Enough is enough. Hands off our nurses.
